Our Beliefs

Statement of Faith

The Holy Bible is the inspired word of God and is the basis for our statement of faith. Our core beliefs are developed directly from the Holy Bible and guide all of our actions as a corporate body of believers in Christ. The church subscribes to the doctrinal statement of “The Baptist Faith and Message” as adopted by the Southern Baptist Convention. We band ourselves together as a body of baptized believers in Jesus Christ, personally committed to sharing the good news of salvation to lost mankind, as Jesus emphasized in the Great Commission: “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:19-20 (NIV)

Core Beliefs

About the Bible

The Holy Bible is God’s Word to us. It was written by men inspired by God and is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. Because it is inspired by God, it is the truth without any mixture of error.
(Is 55:11; 2 Tim 3:16; 2 Pet 1:20-21; 2 Tim1:13; Ps 12:6, 119:105, 160; Pr 30:5)

About God

God is the creator and ruler of the universe. He has eternally existed in three personalities; the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and are one God. By His sovereign power He sustains His creation. By His providence He is operating throughout history to fulfill His redemptive purposes.(Gen 1:1,26-27; Ps 90:2; Mt 28:19; 1 Pet 1:2; 2 Cor 13:14)

About Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heavens glory and will return again someday to earth to reign as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

About the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and the Son. He is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. He gives believers spiritual gifts when they are saved. As Christians we seek to live under the Spirit’s control daily.
(2 Cor 3:17; Jn 16:7-13, 14:16-27; Acts 1:8; 1 Cor 2:12; Eph 1:13, 5:18; Gal 5:25)

About Mankind

Mankind was created in the image of God, to be like Him in character and person. Mankind is the supreme object of God’s creation. Through the temptation of Satan, mankind transgressed the command of God and fell from his original innocence. Only the grace of God can bring man into right relationship with God and enable man to fulfill the original creative purpose of God. The sacredness of human beings is evident in that God created us in his own image, demonstrating this when Christ died for all mankind; therefore every person of every race possesses full dignity and is worthy of respect and Christian love.
(Gen 1:27; Ps 8:3-6; Is 53:6; Rom 3:23, 5:8)

About the Family

God has ordained the family as the foundational institution of human society. It is composed of persons related to one another by marriage, blood, or adoption. We believe the term marriage has only one meaning; that is marriage, sanctioned by God, uniting one man and one woman in covenant commitment for a lifetime. Based on this belief we limit unions of marriage in the confines of Rock Hill Baptist Church to one man and one woman. The husband and wife are of equal worth before God, since both are created in God’s image. Children, from the moment of conception, are a blessing and heritage from the Lord. Parents are to teach their children spiritual and moral values and to lead them, through consistent lifestyle, example and loving discipline, to make choices based on biblical truth. Children are to honor and obey their parents.
